The City's Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is seeking an individual whose values align with the values of the City's employees.

The Department of Parks Recreation and Neighborhood Services (PRNS) is seeking a Parks Manager for its Capital Infrastructure Team (CIT). This senior level manager oversees an $8 million dollar Minor Capital Projects program for PRNS, and is responsible for identifying capital project priorities and coordinating project activities and initiatives with a variety of stakeholders throughout the City's vast parks system.

This position directly supervises a technical staff, including a Program Manager, Senior Engineering Technician, Structure/Landscape Designer II, Associate Construction Inspector, and Park Facility Supervisor who oversee a crew of 12 line staff, all of whom are extremely knowledgeable about park operations, construction and maintenance. Together, the group is charged with moving the department's financial sustainability and revenue generation efforts forward with progressive, environmentally sustainable principles and practices in mind.

Key Responsibilities

This senior level manager will play a key role in developing and advancing plans to renovate park amenities and infrastructure throughout the City's parks and trails network. This will involve coordinating a large, diverse set of stakeholders including architects, engineers, and operations staff within PRNS; counterparts in other departments, such as the Public Works Department; City Council members and commissioners; and, external stakeholders, such as vendors, contractors, corporate partners, community based organizations, and "Friends of... " groups.

With this in mind, the City is seeking a strong, innovative, and politically sensitive leader to juggle numerous priorities in a way that promotes PRNS as a national leader in Parks and Recreation. Key near-term projects will include oversight of the following:

- Design and installation of numerous amenities throughout the City's park system;

- Renovation of the historic Log Cabin picnic site atAlum RockRegionalPark;

- Renovations of "Family Camp atYosemite" recreational camp grounds;

- Complete renovation of neighborhood and community serving parks; and

- Facility improvements, repairs and renovations of community centers

In addition to these projects, this position will also manage various day-to-day operations related to erosion control, storm water run-off, green building development, etc. In doing so, the Parks Manager will work closely with the Capital Development team while overseeing the implementation and administration of the department's new INFOR Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS), which is used to track the progress of efficiency improvement efforts, as well as the department's deferred maintenance and infrastructure development backlog.

Position and Duties

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to:

1. EDUCATION: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to successful completion of advanced undergraduate course work in parks and/or recreation management or a relating field from an accredited college or university; and,

2. EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of experience in park management or professional public administration in planning, organizing of community cultural or recreational facilities and programs.

3. LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES: Possession of a validCaliforniadriver's license.

Selection Process

The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to the Job Specific Questions.
