This is the journey level engineering classification within the series that requires the development of solutions and interpretation of policies and procedures. During review of development projects incumbents have the authority to approve and stamp engineering plans. Incumbents perform plan design and review of projects that involve coordination among multiple departments or agencies.

Assists in the design of City projects and/or acts as a project engineer for small projects designed in-house or by consulting engineers, which may include, but is not limited to: writing specifications, developing engineering plans, preparing work orders, developing preliminary cost estimates, analyzing and resolving drafting and design problems, conducting field investigations, and/or performing other related activities as assignedReviews plans for private developments and ensure that they meet all City-imposed requirementsResponds to a variety of inquiries, concerns, and/or complaints from City staff, developers, consultants, contractors, and/or the general public related to projects and activities within assigned area of responsibilityPrepares, reviews, and analyzes a variety of correspondence, technical documentation, studies, and/or reports related to applicable projectsParticipates in the development and implementation of departmental design standards, technical policies, and proceduresAttends a variety of meetings related to assigned projects; presents information to District Advisory Boards, the City Council, the general public, and/or other interested partiesPerforms complex calculations and prepares estimates of time and material costsInvestigates field problems affecting property owners, contractors and maintenance operationsMaintains regular attendance and punctualityPerforms other duties of a similar nature or level

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and two years of related civil engineering experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Must have at time of hire and be able to maintain a State of Arizona Professional Civil Engineer license (PE) or an equivalency through state reciprocity.
