The Position
Reporting directly to the Director of Utilities, this advanced professional and administrative position is responsible for assisting in the directing, planning, managing, and monitoring of the daily functions and operations of the Lee County Utilities Department.

The Government
Lee County provides a full complement of programs and services to its 600,000+ citizens and its municipalities - Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Sanibel, Fort Myers Beach, and Bonita Springs. A five-member Board of County Commissioners, elected by all voters representing districts in which they live, acts as the chief policy-making and legislative body.

Examples Of Essential Duties:
While this position will ultimately be responsible for the successful management of daily operations, planning, design, construction, engineering, and maintenance of Lee County water, wastewater, and reuse systems, specific responsibilities will include:

Provide oversight and quality control for the Capital Improvement Plans as well as operations, maintenance, and renewal and replacement programs; provide assistance in the development, preparation, monitoring, and maintenance of the department's annual budget and work programs; formulate recommendations and generate documentation for submittal to the Board of County Commissioners and County Administration; interpret and ensure administrative and departmental policies are enforced and followed; direct staff in the management and protocol of regulatory compliance issues; provide counsel to staff in regards to performance issues and resolve employee issues through effective coaching.

Typical Qualifications:
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree Business Administration, Engineering, or related field and six years of related work experience, including four years of supervisory and/or administrative experience.

Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Supplemental Information:
The successful candidate will be a diplomatic and collaborative team player, possess an energetic and positive attitude, and have the ability to effectively manage and adapt to a large and diversified workforce. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing are a must.

The incumbent should possess a strong, general knowledge of utilities including; local, state, and federal laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances, and principles, practices, and terminology used in the business operations of water, wastewater, and reuse systems.

Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Florida or Professional Registration and the eligibility to obtain registration in the State of Florida within twelve months of appointment is preferred.
