The Water Heavy Equipment Operator performs skilled work and related duties in the operation of heavy mechanized equipment to construct, repair, replace, and maintain City water lines for the Water Department.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates heavy equipment such as backhoes, hydro-hammers, cranes, large loaders, dozers, and conveyor loadersPerforms tasks such as patching, grading, hauling material, pipeline excavation and backfillSnow removal dutyServices, maintains, and makes minor mechanical adjustments and minor repairs on assigned equipmentMay act as leadworkerMay assist in training other employees in equipment operationPerforms additional duties as assigned
Licenses, Certificates or Equipment Required:
WORKING CONDITIONS Physical Demands: Heavy physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds; frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds; considerable hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of heavy equipment and vehicles; speech communication to give instructions and provide technical direction; vision read manuals and monitor equipment gauges; hearing/listening for instructions and warning signals
Work Environment: Works primarily outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and chemicals. Some work may be performed in trenches and/or confined spaces.
Equipment Used: Operates heavy equipment common to utility maintenance and construction.
