Incorporated in 1890, Kent is the sixth largest city in Washington, with a population of approximately 120,000. The City of Kent operates under a mayor/council form of government and employs approximately 630 full-time employees and its two-year budget covering 2013-2014 totals $325 million. The Public Works Department maintains and operates five distinct utilities, designs and constructs a variety of capital projects, and provides for safe transportation throughout the city. There are two divisions—Operations and Engineering. Under the direction of the Public Works Director, the Public Works Operations Manager plans, organizes, and coordinates the operations and activities of the Operations Division, which includes Administration, Water Supply and Distribution, Street and Signage Maintenance, Wastewater and Storm Water Collection, Vegetation Control, Fleet Services, Utilities Technical Support, and General Warehouse Sections.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Public Administration or a related field. Six years of increasingly responsible public works operation and maintenance, including utilities, roadway design and construction management experience and a minimum of 4 years in a management/supervisory capacity in this field. Or, any combination of relevant education and experience which would demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the position.
