Responsible for supervising work crews in the sanitation division in the operations of the sanitation collection and disposal. Employee performs effective supervision of sanitation workers and equipment operators. Regularly communicates the policies and procedures of the city’s sanitation operation to the public and other officials. Serves in the absence of the Sanitation Superintendent. Makes work assignments. Comprehensive knowledge of solid waste collection and disposal practices and technology; modern management practices and procedures; modern developments, current literature, and sources of information relating to the solid waste industry. Ability to: plan, assign, direct, and coordinate the work of professional, skilled and unskilled trades workers, and clerical employees in a manner that promotes full performance; write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings; develop a team environment inclusive of all staff; establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, directors, managers, and the general public. Skill in: research and analysis of data; verbal and written communications with staff, the general public and other government officials. Ability to: develop a team environment inclusive of all staff. Monitors the performance of the employees correcting performance deficiencies. Coordinates with fleet maintenance for scheduling of preventive maintenance /vehicle repair.

Completion of an associate’s degree in management or a related field, with considerable experience in management and supervision of work crews. Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License required.
