Civil Engineer III
City Engineering’s Capital Projects Group seeks a Civil Engineer III to perform responsible professional engineering and project management duties in support of roadway, bridge, intersection, sidewalk, stormwater management, and related capital projects, programs, and engineering studies.
Oversee and coordinate assigned civil engineering projects and activities for the Public Works Department including financial administration, planning, budgeting, purchasing, and construction management Evaluate alternatives and make recommendations regarding proposed improvements Prepare requests for qualifications/proposals and lead selection process for engineering consultants and Design-Build teams, oversee contracts, and review and approve progress submittals. Lead public involvement meetings and answer inquiries from citizens and stakeholders regarding city projects, policies, and procedures Coordinate assigned projects with utility companies, other City departments, and county, state, and federal agencies Assist with preparation of program and divisional budgets
Examples of Job Competencies
Advanced professional civil engineering principles, practices, and methods Principles and practices of project management Pertinent federal, state, and local codes, laws, and regulations governing one or more of the following: Environmental Protection Agency Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (EPA MS4), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Grant funded project requirements, and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) Traffic control Methods and techniques of engineering plan design, review, and approval. Principles of supervision and training Principles of business letter writing and technical report preparation Construction management principles
Prepare accurate designs, plans, specifications, cost estimates, and complex engineering reports Use AutoCAD Civil 3D in the preparation of engineering designs and plans Perform various project management and professional civil engineering functions Provide technical supervision and training to lower level engineering staff Ensure project compliance with diverse and complex regulations, standards, and procedures Prepare and administer project budgets Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing Establish and maintain effective working relationships
This position requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related engineering field.
Four years of full-time increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience.
Possess registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Colorado, or possession of a PE in another state with the ability to obtain a Colorado PE within six months of hire.
Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license.
