The City of Ennis, Texas is seeking an experienced public works professional to be the next Director of Public Works. Under the general administrative direction of the City Manager, this position performs supervisory and administrative work in directing, supervising, and coordinating the operations of the Public Works Department including the following operations: Street Maintenance, Municipal Buildings and Facilities Maintenance, Fleet Maintenance, Sanitation, Airport Management and Engineering and Construction Inspections. The Public Works Director serves as a key member of the City Manager’s executive team and oversees budgets totaling $3.3 million for Fiscal Year 2013-2014 and an organization with 37 FTE’s. The City is recently issued $6 million in bond funding for street projects and continued focus on street improvements is expected. The City Manager will seek additional funding for street maintenance and implementation of a pavement management system. The ideal candidate will be able to provide engineering review, as well. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, public administration or closely related field and ten years previous experience including five years’ of supervisory experience, in public works operations and city administration; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Texas Registered Professional Engineer is preferred.
The starting salary is open and will depend upon background and qualifications of the successful candidate. The city has an exceptional benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 20 year TMRS retirement with 5 year vesting and 2:1 city match, vacation, and holidays.
