Snohomish County Surface Water Management (SWM) works with local and regional partners to provide effective surface water services to protect vital county resources. SWM is currently seeking to fill an important planner position within the Program Planning group. This Project Specialist IV position serves as the Lead Entity coordinator for salmon recovery planning efforts in the Snohomish River watershed. As a lead entity, Snohomish County provides staff to coordinate the development of local salmon habitat recovery strategies as well as to support and track habitat protection and restoration projects that will implement those strategies. This position also oversees salmon recovery planning efforts in other watersheds in the County and may serve as the lead of lower level staff in the Program Planning group.
SWM is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual to fill this important position. This position serves as the facilitator for the Snohomish River Basin Salmon Recovery Forum, which is a voluntary group of citizens, businesses, tribal representatives, farmers and elected officials that guides conservation and salmon recovery efforts in the Snohomish River Basin. This position coordinates the review, rating, and recommendation of projects for annual grant funding from the Salmon Recovery Funding Board to help protect or restore salmon habitat. This position also oversees the development, agency coordination, and annual update of 3-year work plans, which consist of lists of upcoming high priority salmon recovery projects in the watershed. In addition, this position oversees salmon recovery planning on other watersheds in the County. This position serves as a project manager and, as such, is expected to manage grant contracts, consultant contracts, and other agreements. Since this position will be expected to coordinate with a wide variety of stakeholders, excellent inter-personal skills and communication skills, such as speaking, writing, and making presentations, are essential. In addition, this position may lead work of lower level staff, so the preferred candidate will be able to give and review work assignments and work well with other staff.
