The City of Chula Vista is seeking a highly motivated Open Space Manager to direct, manage and coordinate the maintenance and operations of Chula Vista urban forestry, open space and natural preserve areas including site analysis, habitat restoration, trail use, and resource management.
This mid-management position is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans, goals, objectives, policies and priorities for open space programs and facilities; recommending modifications to resource enhancement and restoration and land acquisition programs, policies and procedures as appropriate; researching and preparing urban forestry, open space and natural preserve management plans and resource analysis reports; preparing budget estimates and contract documents; reviewing and selecting consultants and contractors; administering contracts; meeting with community representatives and contractors on improvement plans; inspecting work-in-progress and coordinating with field staff; seeking out and securing innovative funding strategies to promote restoration and preservation efforts in the natural preserve areas; assigning work activities, projects and programs; monitoring workflow; reviewing and evaluating work products, methods and procedures; monitoring development projects and their effect on urban forestry, open space and natural areas; and performing related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in open space management to include administering urban forestry, open space maintenance contracts and two year of supervisory experience AND training equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Botany, Horticulture, Ecology, Environmental Planning, Natural Resource Management or a related field. International Society of Arboriculture certification as a Certified Arborist is required within the first year of employment.
