PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT / CENTRAL MAINTENANCE GARAGE
STARTING SALARY: $55,478 TO $82,972 (STARTING SALARY TYPICALLY IN THE FIRST QUARTILE OF PAY RANGE)
RESPONSIBILITIES: The City of Lawrence is seeking to fill the position of Fleet Manager to supervise and coordinate the activities and services performed in the Central Maintenance Garage. The garage operates as an internal service fund. Departments are billed for maintenance and repair services for over 500 power units and over 100 other stock. This position is responsible for professionally managing the fleet, maintenance of vehicles and equipment, complex administrative support in purchasing and specifying equipment, and coordinating various activities with other city departments, divisions and outside agencies. Key job duties include managing and participating in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for fleet services, including the maintenance, repair and replacement of all light and heavy vehicles, and all appropriate non-rolling equipment. Other key job duties include budget preparation, training of employees, identifying and resolving problems, and oversight of billing, inventory, and maintenance functions.
QUALIFICATIONS: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in related field, but significant relevant experience may substitute for educational requirement. Certified Public Fleet Manager is preferred. Six years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of all types of light and heavy automotive and other equipment including two years of supervisory responsibility. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license. The successful applicant must pass the background check, post-offer City physical and drug screen.
