Assistant Director of Public Works / City Engineer
The scenic, progressive and growing City of Fairfield (population 106,000) located midway between San Francisco and Sacramento in Solano County, seeks an experienced professional with exceptional management and leadership skills to serve as Assistant Director of Public Works/City Engineer. This position provides leadership and direction for 23 employees in the Engineering Division of Public Works including: CIP Design, Traffic Engineering, Construction Management, Development Review, Parks Planning, Special District Administration, and Golf Course Operations.
The ideal candidate is an energetic, out-going public works/engineering professional who possesses broad experience in all areas of public works engineering. As the Assistant Director interacts with a number of internal and external stakeholders, exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are of the utmost importance. Candidates with the demonstrated ability to develop staff will be favorably considered. A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field, and registration as a civil engineer in California is required, along with significant responsible public sector professional engineering experience, including two years of administrative and management responsibility. Out-of-state candidates must receive their California registration within one year of appointment. Certification as a Land Surveyor is considered a plus, as is a Master’s degree.
