The Village of Oswego (population 30,355) seeks a Director of Public Works to manage and lead the activities of a 20 member department that includes street maintenance, fleet maintenance, storm and sanitary sewer systems, water treatment, water distribution, oversight of grant funded projects, buildings and facilities, and construction projects.
The candidate for this position should have a Degree in Civil Engineering or related field, and a minimum of seven (7) years of experience with public works operations, including a minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience. Candidates shall have a current Illinois PE license, or the ability to obtain such a license within a reasonable time. A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Class B water operator’s license is desirable.
Candidates should possess excellent customer service and communication skills, financial management skills, excellent safety record, and a proven history of employee management within a collective bargaining environment. Candidate will be expected to manage engineering consultants and service contractors who perform service to the Public Works Department. The successful candidate will be a person of integrity who leads by example, a visionary and team player.
