Under administrative direction, assists, plans, manages, oversees, and directs the operations and services of several Divisions in the Public Works Department as assigned.  The Department of Public Works has two Assistant Director positions that are each responsible for several Divisions.  Currently, the Department is structured so that the Assistant Director--Utilities is responsible for the Divisions of Water (water production and distribution, sewer collection, storm water management), Solid Waste Management (collection, recycling and disposal), and Fleet Management (light and heavy mobile equipment maintenance).  The Assistant Director--City Engineer is responsible for the Divisions of Engineering, Streets and Building Maintenance.  The City intends to hire the most qualified candidate and to assign the Divisions to the two Assistant Directors to best fit the qualifications of each and to best fit the City's needs while considering individual preference.

Requires 5 years of broad and extensive experience in civil and /or traffic engineering, public works, utilities, or related service delivery operations, including at least 3 years in a responsible supervisory capacity, and a BA degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.  Requires possession of a civil engineer registration and may require a traffic engineer registration issued by the CA Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.  Possession of CA Water Treatment Operator and Water Distribution Operator certificates is desired.
