The City of Snohomish is located along the banks of the Snohomish River, just 30 miles northeast of downtown Seattle, and is considered to be one of the most livable small communities in western Washington. The city has a population of approximately 9,200 and currently services a commercial trade area of 80,000. Incorporated in 1890, Snohomish is the third oldest city in the state. This historic community is listed on both the State and National Registries of Historic Places and is known as the “Antique Capital of the Northwest,” with over 300 antique dealers. The Snohomish River and the nearby Cascade Mountains provide an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities.

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Utility Operations Division, the Engineering Services Division, and the Parks, Facilities, Streets, and Fleet Division. Under administrative direction of the Public Works Director, the Utilities Manager directs, manages, supervises, and coordinates the activities and operations of the Utility Operations Division, including maintenance and operation of water treatment, water distribution, water quality, stormwater, wastewater collections, and wastewater treatment services and activities. The division is currently staffed by 15 FTEs.

Equivalent to the completion of an Associate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in construction and maintenance or a related field, and eight years of increasingly responsible work in operations, preferably public works, including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility, required. Any combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the level of required knowledge and abilities may be considered.
