Charles Abbott Associates, Inc. has a full-time opportunity in Orange County for an Associate Civil Engineer. This is a position within a local municipality in the Public Works Dept. The elected candidate will develop, coordinate, and administer CIP and public works maintenance projects for the city such as street improvement, storm drain and water quality projects, including: issuing RFPs, consultant selection, contract administration, writing construction specs., bid preparation and award, review of technical plans, contractor selection, coordinate project schedules and budgets, process change orders, project inspections, oversee field inspection staff, and provide assistance to Public Works and other City Departments as needed.They will also participate in the plan check, review and processing of plans for private development and utility work affecting streets, sewers, drains and related public works facilities and ensure that they meet all City imposed requirements. The candidate will then issue permits and coordinate inspections for grading and encroachment work.

Knowledge of contract administration and project management, budget management, construction techniques, and scheduling, is necessary as are the ability to deal effectively with the public, contractors, developers, advisory bodies, and staff and to independently prepare and present ideas concisely and clearly in written and oral communications. A Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering from a four-year college or university is required. Prior experience in a municipal setting is preferred.
