The City of Shawano, Wisconsin (pop. 9,305) seeks an experienced professional to lead our 20 person Public Works Department as the Public Works Director.

The City of Shawano Public Works Director is responsible for administering a $6.6 million operating budget and supervising all activities and programs of the Shawano Public Works Department including: Engineering; Streets and Transportation; Storm Water; Water and Sanitary Sewer Utility; Solid Waste and Recycling Collection; and the City/County Landfill/Transfer Station. The Public Works Director is a key member of the City’s management team supporting City planning and development efforts and represents the City on regional boards and commissions.

Ideal candidates will have: experience and demonstrated leadership abilities in a similar organization; well developed budget aptitude; construction management experience with large civil projects; and, the ability to inspire confidence and communicate effectively in both the field and board room. Required qualifications include: Bachelor's Degree in a related field of study; 7+ years of progressively responsible experience managing municipal public works and utilities; and, a verifiable record of effective cooperation with administration and fellow department heads. A Licensed Professional (Civil) Engineer is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Starting salary range: $72,000 – $82,000 (DOQ) with an attractive benefit package. Residency, in the City of Shawano, is required within 12 months of employment.
