A message from David Himes, Response Subcommittee Chair:
Over the past few years more areas of the country have been affected by incidents of unprecedented magnitude and economic challenges. Together, these effects have severely strained local public works agencies ability to effectively respond to incidents as we may have in the past. Public works agencies must do a better job of planning, training, and resource allocation to meet these challenges. Coupled with existing and soon to be implemented FEMA/DHS programs and directives, Public Works agencies must change and adapt existing approaches to their response systems.
This subcommittee will focus their efforts to providing tools and promoting better understanding by public works agencies of their emergency management responsibilities as it relates to the actions and activities that must take place prior to or following the onset of an incident toward protection of life, property, infrastructure, and the environment.
