New APWA staff

Elizabeth Kelsey has joined APWA in the Washington, D.C. office as the Government Affairs Assistant. She will support the Government Affairs team in creating and realizing their public policy advocacy objectives.

Elizabeth comes to APWA from the University of Michigan Government Relations office in Lansing, MI, where she was responsible for planning legislative events and outreach activities. There, she also founded the area's first young professionals group, which is still going strong with over 500 members. A native of Portland, Maine, she has interned with Congressman Tom Allen (D-ME) and at DCI Group public affairs firm, and worked on the 2004 Presidential campaign to elect John Kerry.

Elizabeth is a 2004 graduate of Muhlenberg College, a small liberal arts school in Allentown, PA, where she studied communication and political science. She received a grant from the school to study the impact of September 11 on children's political views and won a faculty award for excellence in political communication. In September she will begin evening classes at the George Washington University's Graduate School of Political Management.

Emily Walters is the new Program Manager for National RTAP. Emily joined APWA on July 5 and will be working on RTAP outreach, meeting management, RTAP archives, and training product development. Emily is originally from Lexington, Kentucky and is a recent graduate from West Virginia University. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in American Policy. She interned for the West Virginia Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) for a year and a half.
