Technical Committees meet in Kansas City

From March 31 to April 2, APWA's nine Technical Committees gathered for their yearly brainstorming session in Kansas City. The three-day meeting included individual committee meetings on Friday and Sunday and a full-day program of coordinating future APWA efforts on Saturday. This event allows the face-to-face contact and information sharing which is essential to these efforts. Members of the association's Board of Directors and staff from the Kansas City and Washington offices also attended.

After a welcoming address by President Bob Freudenthal, the Saturday agenda was highlighted by Executive Director Peter King's discussion of advocacy efforts, including testimony and hearings and the Congressional Briefings in Washington, D.C.; a description of certification programs in the works by Director-at-Large Larry Frevert and Certification Manager Becky Stein; and a recap of the Executive Committee's recent trip to the Gulf Coast by President Freudenthal. In addition, individual committee chairs outlined their groups' activities and accomplishments for the past year and future plans.

Interspersed between the presentations was a "Public Works Pictionary" game which involved teamwork and knowledge sharing, and kept the day's mood upbeat and lighthearted.

The Technical Committees are essential to the mission of APWA, serving as centers of expertise and technical insight. This Combined Meeting makes it possible for these committees to enhance their service to APWA members.
