New APWA staff
Brian Van Norman, CAE, is the Director of Chapter Relations at APWA. In this role he is responsible for ensuring that APWA chapters function at a high level and receive all available services and support possible from the national office.
Brian has 13 years of experience in association and not-for-profit management. He began his career in association management with the Kansas City-based American Academy of Family Physicians where he served as the manager of the Student Affairs Department. Following five years with the AAFP, he served as the project director for the Office of External Affairs and University Advancement at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kansas. Brian holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Communications and Marketing from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma.
Prior to becoming the executive director for Children's Miracle Network of Greater Kansas City in February 2004, Brian served as the executive director for Hotel Brokers International, the world's largest professional membership association for hospitality real estate brokers.
Brian earned his Certified Association Executive designation from the American Society of Association Executives in 2005. He is a member of the American Society of Association Executives, Kansas City Society of Association Executives (KCSAE), Council on Philanthropy, and Kiwanis International. Having served on and chaired a number of volunteer committees, Brian currently serves as the Central United States Regional Representative on the International Development Advisory Committee for Children's Miracle Network in representing 25 chapter offices. He is the Co-Chair for the KCSAE Program and Annual Conference Committee.
An avid athlete, Brian competes in local and national softball and volleyball tournaments and enjoys long distance running. He enjoys attending sporting events and volunteering time with nonprofit organizations.
