Haraga appointed Hawaii DOT Director

On January 9, Hawaii’s Governor Linda Lingle announced the appointment of Rodney K. Haraga as Director of the Department of Transportation. The DOT has 3,000 employees and directs the activities of all state airports, harbors and highways.

Haraga continues to be an active member of the Hawaii Chapter of APWA and serves as Chair of the Education Committee. He also served as Chapter President in 1999. In 1998, he served as the President of the Southern California Chapter, having been President-Elect and Treasurer in 1997. He served the City of Los Angeles for over 32 years and retired as a Deputy City Engineer, Bureau of Engineering in 1999. While in Hawaii he worked as a project manager for KFC Engineering Management, Inc. before accepting the position of Director of the Department of Transportation, State of Hawaii.

Haraga is a graduate of Purdue University and has a Master’s in Public Administration from Long Beach State College. He is a registered structural and civil engineer in California and Hawaii.
