Ronald G. Brohammer has joined the APWA staff as Professional Development Program Manager.
After completing more than 27 years in the U.S. Air Force where his activities ranged from aircraft maintenance, to intercontinental ballistic missile operations, to leadership of the support and infrastructure facilities for a major Air Force installation, Ron entered the public sector. He first served as assistant city manager/director public works for a small city and then city administrator for another Midwestern community. He brings many years of management and leadership experience to APWA's Professional Development Program.
Ron is currently responsible for the Fleet Management, Facilities Management, and Emergency Management Committees. In addition, he supports several task forces and subcommittees that are charged with producing APWA publications for their related fields.
Greg Hartegan has joined the staff as Information Resources Manager. For the past 12 years he worked in the green industry.
At Suburban Lawn & Garden, he worked in dual roles as a Lawn Maintenance Manager, directing lawn care crews, and as a Computer Specialist, providing technical support and designing databases. Prior to working for Suburban, Greg was Director of Grounds for The 3&2 Baseball Club of Johnson County, where he was responsible for managing the groundskeeping and landscaping of the little-league complex.
Greg received his B.S. in Horticulture from Kansas State University. He resides in Overland Park, Kansas.
Lee Hawkins has joined the APWA staff as Director of Member Relations. For the past nine years, he served as Manager of Special Constituency Member Issues at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). In this position, he was primarily responsible for evolving and instituting membership services and programs for the AAFP's women, minority, international medical graduate and young physician members.
Prior to his tenure at the AAFP, Lee was the Professional Relations Supervisor for the Disability Determinations Section of the Social Security Administration. At Disability Determinations, he was responsible for the negotiating contracts with physicians and health care facilities, as well as educating medical providers on the federal requirements of the disability program.
Lee received his BSW from the University of Kansas. He has a son, Jarreau, who is a senior at Southwest Missouri State University. Lee resides in Grandview, Missouri.
LaToya Jones has joined the staff as Membership Coordinator. For the past three years, she has provided several contract employers with customer service, administrative support, and communication services.
LaToya has worked with companies such as IBM, Arthur Andersen, and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. She received her high school diploma from Van Horn Engineering & Technology in May of 1997. She also attended Penn Valley Community College while in high school and went on to attend Longview Community College afterwards. She is the oldest of three. LaToya resides in Kansas City, Missouri.
Rebecca Leistico has joined APWA as an Accounts Receivable Specialist in the Accounting Department.
Rebecca previously worked for Arthur J. Gallager as a workman's compensation carrier. Her responsibilities included customer service calls, data entry, and filing. Before that she worked at RRDonnelly & Sons outgoing mail services for American Century. Rebecca, her husband, Sean, and son, Brandon, reside in Kansas City, Missouri.
J. Christopher Unger has joined the APWA staff, filling the new position of Publications Marketing Specialist.
For the past eight years, Chris has worked in educational marketing and has experience in a variety of institutions from small private colleges to large public universities and career colleges. Most recently, Chris was a marketing consultant for Target Marketing, Inc., providing strategies and solutions to over 450 colleges and universities nationwide. Previously, Chris enjoyed a career in the United States Air Force. Having risen in rank from Airman to Major while serving his country in the field of Intelligence, Chris still serves as a member of the Air Force Reserves.
Mr. Unger received his B.A. in Russian Language from Florida State University and his M.A. in English Education (TESL) from Central Missouri State University. He, his wife, Valerie, and three daughters, Jennifer, Rachel and Laura, reside in Gladstone, Missouri.
