EPA/Corps of Engineers Issue new 'Waters of the US' Proposed Rule Modifying Definition

APWA’s Water Resources Management Committee and Government Affairs Committee would like your input on the potential impact of a new proposed regulation defining what types of waters and waterways fall under the jurisdiction of the Clean Water Act (CWA) and would therefore be deemed ‘Waters of the US.’ The Committees are preparing comments on behalf of APWA to submit to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Corps of Engineers (USACE). Your input is needed and will help the APWA comment on the full potential impact and any costs of the proposed regulation.

The new rule, published April 21, would expand the types of waters that will be considered jurisdictional and subject to CWA permitting requirements and could affect project development and operations for public works departments across the country. For a brief summary of the proposed rulemaking, visit http://www.apwa.net/be_involved/Federal-Advocacy/Federal-Regulation/US-Federal-Regulations.

Please respond with your input to Tracy Okoroike at tokoroike@apwa.net.

In addition, we encourage you to submit comments to EPA on behalf of your agency. Please forward a copy of your comments to us as well.
