Region 2 Director Harry Weed Appointed to NYS Respond Commisison

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Harry L. Weed, II, Superintendent of Public Works for the Village of Rockville Centre, New York, and APWA Region II Director, has been appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo as a public works representative to the NYS Respond Commission. The Commission, one of three established by the Governor in response to Hurricane Sandy, is  tasked with finding ways to ensure that New York State is ready to respond to future weather-related disasters. The Commission will examine and make recommendations to improve the planning, training and resource commitment that must occur before the next major weather event in order for the appropriate deployment of people and resources to take place during and after the emergency or disaster occurs.

Weed joins 26 other emergency management professionals on this new Commission, which is co-chaired by Thad Allen, who is Senior Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton; US Coast Guard Admiral (Retired), and Brad Penuel, Director of the Center for Catastrophe Preparedness and Response at New York University.

“On behalf of all public works professionals in New York, we thank the Governor for recognizing the critical role public works plays in emergency management by appointing Harry Weed to this important Commission. We congratulate Mr. Weed on his appointment and APWA pledges to assist in the research and support of recommendations developed,” noted APWA Executive Director Peter B. King.
