1) Director of Project Controls

Compensation: $148,000 - $160,000 Benefits: Attractive executive level package

 

Under general leadership from the Chief Harbor Engineer, the Director of Project Controls will be responsible for all project control related activity for capital construction projects. This position will develop and implement project control strategies, budgets, procedures, guidelines and tools. In addition, this position will create, review and help maintain cost reports and schedules for a variety of construction programs, and provide related analysis and guidance for Engineering Bureau.

  • Provides leadership and direction for the division that provides all project control services for the Engineering Bureau of the Port of Long Beach. Provides direct and indirect supervision of all project control staff, establishes goals and objectives, measures performance, and ensures an effective, customer-oriented service level is attained.
  • Requires approximately ten to fifteen years of engineering experience in a management role supervising staff involved in the full range of engineering functions in construction, design, and program management is required.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant combination of technical degree and business degree is required. Master’s Degree desirable.

2) Assistant Managing Director of Alternate Project Delivery & Construction Management

Compensation: $170,000 - $185,000 Benefits: Attractive executive level package

 

Under general leadership from the Managing Director of the Engineering Bureau, the Assistant Managing Director of Alternate Project Delivery and Construction Management directs alternate project delivery activities and construction management, including major construction projects like the Gerald Desmond Replacement project and Middle Harbor Expansion.

  • Provides leadership and directs overall administrative activities for the Alternate Project Delivery and Construction Management Division; establishes goals and objectives, measures performance, and ensures an effective, customer-oriented service level is attained; assists in recruiting, hiring and training staff to meet ongoing challenges and to strengthen the Bureau.
  • Requires approximately ten to fifteen years of increasingly responsible experience in engineering management with a strong emphasis on project development, design and construction.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is required. Master’s Degree desirable.
  • Must be a licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California.

3) Director of Construction Management

Compensation: $148,000 - $160,000 Benefits: Attractive executive level package

 

Under general leadership from the Managing Director of the Engineering Bureau, the Director of Construction Management leads and directs the construction management of all Port construction projects, including construction project management, inspection, materials testing and administrative support.

  • Provides leadership and direction for the division with direct and indirect supervision of all construction management staff, establishes goals and objectives, measures performance, and ensures an effective, customer-oriented service level.
  • Requires approximately ten to fifteen years of progressively challenging construction management experience in the field of engineering, of which at least the last five years must be in a responsible position managing and directing professional staff.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferably Civil Engineering) is required. Master’s Degree desirable.
  • Must be a licensed Civil Engineer in the State of California.

4) Director of Alternate Project Delivery

Compensation: $148,000 - $160,000 Benefits: Attractive executive level package

 

Under general leadership from the Assistant Managing Director of the Alternate Project Delivery, the Director of Alternate Project Delivery has oversight of major capital projects delivered using alternative methods, such as the Gerald Desmond Replacement project, new headquarters building project, and/or other assigned long-term capital projects.

  • Provides leadership and directs overall administrative activities for the Alternate Project Delivery Division; establishes goals and objectives, measures performance, and ensures an effective, customer-oriented service level is attained; assists in recruiting, hiring and training staff to meet ongoing challenges.
  • Requires approximately ten to fifteen years of increasingly responsible experience in engineering management with a strong emphasis on project development, design and construction.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is required. Master’s Degree desirable.
  • Must be a registered professional engineer in the State of California.

5) Assistant Director of Program Management

Compensation: $130,000 - $145,000 Benefits: Attractive executive level package

 

Under general leadership from the Director of Program Management, the Assistant Director of Program Management is the number two person in the division. This leader is responsible for providing guidance and direction to technical and administrative staff who are responsible for the Port's Capital Improvement Program. This leader is also responsible for establishing, maintaining and continuously improving the Port’s project delivery processes and procedures including project management and quality management systems

  • Assists the Director of Program Management with managing the division: establishes staff work schedules; plans and allocates office space for staff; assists with preparing the division’s annual personnel and non-personnel budgets; oversees resource planning and management; establishes, adopts, enforces and implements the organization’s policies and procedures; advises Director on staffing and operational protocol issues; works with Director to develop strategic plans; incorporates best management practices and technologies; evaluates the performance of the Division.
  • Requires approximately seven or more years of professional engineering experience, including two years as an engineering section leader and two years of experience working with port, harbor or related projects of similar scale and complexity, is required. This qualifying experience must have been attained after successful graduation with a degree in Engineering or Architecture OR after passing the Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) examination in the field of Engineering.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Architecture OR Passing of the E.I.T. examination in the field of Engineering is required.
  • Registration as a Professional Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Structural Engineer or Registered Architect in the State of California is required.
