Director of Operations & Maintenance / Deputy General Manager
The Monterey Regional Water Pollution Control Agency (MRWPCA) is seeking a seasoned manager and communicator as their Director of Operations & Maintenance/Deputy General Manager. MRWPCA is a Joint Powers Authority of eleven agencies, located in the Monterey County area, all with water treatment responsibilities. MRWPCA currently serves a population of approximately 250,000 people and treats 18.5 million gallons each day. The Agency is supported by approximately 80 staff and a FY13-14 Operating Budget of $24.8 million.
Under the direction of the General Manager, the Director of Operations & Maintenance/Deputy General Manager exercises general direction and supervision over management, supervisory, professional, technical and administrative support staff through subordinate levels of management and supervision. The Director of Operations & Maintenance/Deputy General Manager directly supervises a staff of six employees tasked with day-to-day responsibilities for the Agency's finances, customer service, human resources, operations, maintenance and engineering. The Director of Operations & Maintenance/Deputy General Manager will give reports to the Board of Directors and be responsible for preparing staff reports and agenda materials to the Board.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced manager with the ability to work collaboratively with the General Manager, Board of Directors, staff and other local and regional stakeholders. A professional demeanor and a proven track record of sound fiscal, technical and personnel management are expected. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written are paramount, as the Director of Operations & Maintenance/Deputy General Manager presents to the Board of Directors and represents the Agency to outside groups/agencies. Ideal candidates will bring a strong customer service ethic with the ability to infuse a customer service approach throughout the organization. Experience working directly with a Board of Directors is required. Strong management skills are paramount – successful candidates will be working managers who possess the demonstrated ability to both empower employees while holding them accountable. A Bachelor’s degree and seven years of broad and extensive work experience in a management or administrative position in a private or public agency is desirable.
