Primarily responsible for Development Review related to transportation/roadway and drainage engineering and may assist with design of capital projects on an as needed basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represents the City in Development Review Process related to transportation/traffic and drainage design and acts as liaison with other city departments involved in the review of land development projects. Implementation of codes, rules and regulations, and reviews plans and specification related to transportation, traffic and drainage applicable to the development projects
  • As the Senior DRC Engineer, provides information to and deals with developers, engineers, contractors, the public and outside agencies in relation to roadway, traffic and drainage design issues
  • Must have an understanding of the concepts and intent of a Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA), specifically an understanding of capacity and level-of-service concepts as it relates to intersection and link design and functionality, and knowledge of various software used in the preparation of TIAs
  • Must have an understanding of municipal roadway design, future traffic operational functionality of signs, markings, traffic control signals and other related traffic control devices, and vehicle/pedestrian relationships and ADA requirements
  • Must be familiar with TxDOT transportation/traffic requirements
  • Works with the City’s Floodplain Administrator to coordinate review of floodplain impacts of development projects
  • Reviews Drainage Studies and reviews design of storm sewers, culverts, open channels, and drainage design related to roadways for development projects
  • Prepares written reports and items for the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council
  • Ability to get along with customers and co-workers
  • Regular and punctual attendance

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. A Masters Degree with concentration in Transportation Engineering can be substituted for 1 year of experience required      
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Texas, and a minimum additional 4 years of experience after obtaining Professional Engineer registration. If not registered in Texas must be able to do so within 6 months of hire

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license within 30 days of hire per state law)
  • Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check
  • Registered as Professional Engineer in Texas
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Must be able to work overtime when requested
