Environmental Compliance Specialist

The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Department of Public Works are announcing a recruitment for the position of Environmental Compliance Specialist. There is one full-time vacancy available. This position performs inspections of County buildings and structures to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, and also conducts safety training for Building Maintenance Division staff.
The ideal candidate has experience working closely with government agencies such as CUPA, BAAQMD, Cal EPA, PERP and the State of California and is fully capable of handling complex issues that arise related to regulatory compliance. In addition, the ideal candidate is effective in maintaining good public relations, dealing effectively with individuals of various ages and backgrounds, and uses sound independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Typically, equivalent to four years of recent full-time progressively responsible experience in building maintenance/mechanical work or a related trade or craft. College-level education in engineering, industrial hygiene, environmental science or a related field may substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis up to two years. Prior experience with regulatory compliance activities and lead work or supervision is desirable.
CERTIFICATION: Must obtain a forty-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) class certificate within 6 months of hire. Must obtain and maintain an International Code Council (ICC) certification as a California Underground Storage Tank (UST) Operator within 6 months of hire. The duties for this position may require travel to various locations within the County to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on County business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record is required. Failure to obtain certificates within the specified timelines will result in termination of employment.
