Director of Public Works – City of Downey, CA

 

Provides and maintains the City's infrastructure in a manner that ensures the health, safety, and welfare of the City's residents and visitors. This includes planning, design, construction, maintenance and operations of public land, including parks, roadways, sidewalks, sewers and storm drains; public buildings and structures; water production, storage and delivery facilities; and the repair and maintenance of City vehicles and equipment. The Public Works Department is made up of four divisions: Administration, Engineering, Maintenance Services, and Utilities. The new Public Works Director will be a proven problem-solver through empowering and mentoring staff; fostering and supporting a cooperative and collaborative work environment based on mutual respect. The position requires eight years of full-time professional experience managing diverse public works operations involving administration, engineering, capital projects and programs, maintenance and operations. Working knowledge of water, sewer, storm, water system infrastructure and operation; and state of regional issues is desired. A Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) issued by the State of California and graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in Civil Engineering is required.
