The incumbent performs technical and professional level engineering work in connection with the evaluation, planning, design, construction and maintenance of Wellington and private projects. An employee in this position applies professional engineering skills and knowledge to a variety of new construction and renovation projects. Assignments offer the opportunity for independent judgment in evaluating alternative plans, completing cost benefit studies, planning work details and making technical determinations with respect to engineering problems. Work is performed under general direction and is reviewed through observation of activities and results achieved.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Serves as project engineer and performs technical engineering tasks in the field and office. Checks and reviews plans and specifications submitted by private engineering consultants, and provides guidance to contractors, owners, and architects relative to the interpretation and application of Wellington standards and specifications. Furnishes engineering advice in regard to proposals made, specifications and standards set forth, and soundness of design, theory, and construction practice. Evaluates surveys and profiles and computes grades for the construction of engineering projects; makes inspections in the field, observes operations, and determines quality of work. Designs and details working drawings of general or specialized public works structures or components of structures. Assists in formulation of engineering standards and specifications; conducts engineering studies and makes recommendations. Reviews construction plans for private developments for compliance with Wellington codes and proper engineering design standards. Performs project management for municipal construction projects, ensuring contractor compliance with project specifications, and time and budget parameters and coordinating communication of pertinent project information with related governmental agencies, consultants, and contractors. Reviews private project development plans, land due plan amendments, zoning petitions, site plans, variance petitions, and various permit applications for compliance with engineering standards. Provides professional review of projects for staff and consultants seeking development approval; writes and assists in preparation of engineering reports. Oversees special studies involving road alignment, roads and drainage, and design projects. Conduct field inspections of Wellington projects, and private projects as needed. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position. May serve as Wellington's representative on Engineering matters. Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering, supplemented by six (6) years of progressively responsible professional level engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience. Professional Engineer (PE) designation required. Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license required.
