PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The Village of Mount Prospect is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Worker. The position performs a variety of arboriculture tasks associated with the maintenance of the Village’s approximately 24,000 parkway trees.
Required skills include parkway tree maintenance (including pruning, removal, cabling, climbing, aerial truck operations, etc.), inspection of contractual tree services, street tree data collection, answering public inquiries, and tree insect and disease abatement.
Position also performs a variety of tasks necessary to achieve the goals of the Public Works Department, as determined by the Public Works Director, using manual labor and construction trade skills; operates one or more types of equipment including snow plows, loaders, forklift, motorized tools, saws, etc.; and other duties as assigned. Additional functions include water main break repairs, sewer repairs, landscape maintenance and the operation of equipment including backhoes, front end loaders, street sweepers and other equipment as assigned. On call and overtime work assigned by rotation among all maintenance employees. Overtime work is mandatory.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in forestry or related field required. Must possess an ISA Certified Arborist certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employment. Must have an Illinois pesticide operator’s license or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment. Certifications must be maintained during term of employment. Must obtain a valid Illinois CDL Class B vehicle operator’s license.
Starting Rate: $24.53 - $33.30hr depending on qualifications.
Any offer of employment will be conditional upon the successful completion of a pre-employment physical, which includes a drug and alcohol screen. Probationary period of one year. Mandatory residency requirement within one year of employment (Randall Road on the west, Route 176 on the north, Lake Michigan on the east, Route 64 to the south).
