Works as a skilled crew member in the installation, replacement, repair and maintenance of water distribution mains and lines, valves and hydrants. Participates in the installation of water mains, valves and hydrants. Repairs leaks and breaks in existing pressured mains. Locates and manipulates valves and keys to regulate the water system. Operates tapping machines to make major water main line taps. Lays pipe by hand or by guiding the activities of a backhoe, hoist or crane operation. Participates in the restoration of work site locations and street surfaces. Backfills excavations,restores dirt work, seeds or sods, sets up erosion control measures, tears down and replaces fences. Replaces landscaping, utilizing proper techniques in minimizing damages to existing utilities. Assists in digging trenches and other excavations. Shores deep excavation. Follows all City policies concerning safety in the work place. Operates various types of motorized construction and maintenance equipment. Operates jackhammer in cutting and breaking concrete, asphalt or rock. Removes waste material from work site. Drives dump truck for hauling construction material. Drives crew trucks and pickup trucks in transporting personnel and materials to designated work sites. Operates a front-end loader up to 2-1/2 cubic yard in loading sweeper piles, broken pipe, dirt, rocks and debris. Operates crane trucks and forklifts for loading pipe or other materials. Operates tandem dump trucks to haul debris or rocks for backfill. Operates uniloader for landscaping and grade and seed. Operates other equipment as needed. Services assigned equipment with fuel, oil, water and grease. Participates in snow plowing and snow removal operations.

Requires high school graduation and 4 years of experience in water or sewer construction and maintenance work, including 2 years at the level of Utility Repairer. Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. Preference given to candidates with 5-10 years supervisory experience and knowledge of water distribution systems or any other utility experience.
