CIVIL ENGINEER III
This is a regular, full-time position in the Engineering Division of the Public Works (PW) Department responsible for performing Professional Engineering duties and applying land surveying principals as well as assisting the Director with various administrative and supervisory tasks. Responsible for all phases of construction projects from concept, field work, engineering design and estimating, plan and specification development and construction supervision and oversight of various projects throughout the City. Routinely works with other City departments and divisions, outside contractors, utility companies, and citizens to investigate and resolve issues and concerns. Provides information relative to the City’s utilities, assets and right-of-ways. Supervised and evaluated by the City Engineer and/or Public Works Director.
Work Environment: Indoor and outdoor work with exposure to the heat/cold weather; working around moving vehicles; protective equipment including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, etc.
Physical Demands: Office work is sedentary with occasional walking, bending, lifting of objects up to 25 pounds. Outdoor work requires frequent to continuous walking, sometimes on uneven or rough surfaces; standing; occasional lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects up to 49 pounds.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications: Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering, Illinois Registered Professional Engineer (or able to obtain Illinois license within 6 months of employment), minimum 5 years Civil Engineering design and construction experience as Registered Professional Engineer (experience in Illinois preferred). Must have significant experience in the design and construction of municipal utilities and systems and must possess or obtain and maintain a valid Illinois driver’s license. Applicants with less than 5 years experience as a Registered Professional Engineer may be considered for an alternate position.
Regular, Full/time, Overtime Exempt; Residency Boundary Requirement (within a 9 mile radius of City Hall within six months of employment)
Salary Range 7 $49,443 - $66,798 (DOQ)
