This key position within the Public Works Division of EMH&T provides engineering and project management support for a variety of public infrastructure improvement projects with a focus on municipal services including pavement maintenance planning, wastewater collection (sewer assessment and design), pump station, and general report preparation. Candidate will be responsible for planning and organizing workflow, conduct of all aspects of project design calculations and subsequent plan preparation, plan reviews and modification, including coordination and concurrence functions with public regulatory agencies and utility companies for utility and infrastructure improvement projects, with an emphasis on public (CIP) projects. The successful candidate will perform QC/QA review on complex and non-complex design tasks to ensure quality products are delivered to clients. This role will also prepare engineering documents and reports, such as probable construction cost estimates for rehab or replacement, life cycle cost comparisons, detail design reports, design exceptions, etc.
A well-qualified applicant will have demonstrated success working with a team of technicians and designers to plan, design, bid and provide consultation during construction for a variety of public infrastructure improvements, including but not limited to: sanitary sewers and pump stations, water distribution systems, site grading and drainage improvements, roadway reconstruction and widening, street rehabilitation and resurfacing programs, and sidewalk / pedestrian improvements. Strong familiarity with both the City of Columbus and Ohio Department of Transportation Material and Construction Specifications is necessary.
Minimum qualifications include a BS in Civil Engineering with at least 6 years of work experience with a Professional Engineer License. Exceptionally strong work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education or PE registration. Applicants must have proficiency using and overseeing work completed in AutoCAD, Autodesk Civil 3D, and other design/drafting software. Candidates must be proficient at Microsoft Word and Excel.
Candidates must have strong technical and communication skills and must be able to work in a team environment and lead/direct specific tasks or entire projects. Applicants must demonstrate their ability to communicate with clients and team members in a professional manner and to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously while maintaining a high standard for quality and a positive attitude.
