POSITION DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The primary responsibility of the Assistant City Engineer it to manage the delivery and oversight of development activity and the capital improvement program and projects within the City and the ETJ and the staff of engineers and project managers responsible for developing and delivering these projects and programs. This position is also responsible for establishing and maintaining engineering design standards and specifications for all public infrastructure improvements within the City Limits and ETJ. This includes improvements in water, wastewater, paving, drainage, parks, facilities and traffic constructed by the City and others.

In addition, the Assistant City Engineer will manage program(s) within Engineering as assigned by the City Engineer, Coordinates with the State, County and City Engineers of adjacent municipalities where joint jurisdiction or shared rights-of-way are involved. Confers with and advises developers and design consultants regarding infrastructure requirements and city approval processes regarding City requirements. As well as assist the City Engineer in meeting the goals of the Engineering Department and the City of Sugar Land.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Master’s Degree preferred.Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, with a minimum of three years’ experience in a municipal government. Must have two years supervisory experience.Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas or the ability to obtain by reciprocity within twelve (12) months. Experience in municipal field is preferredValid Class "C" Texas Driver’s License
