The Public Works Supervisor (PWS) program is the first level of the Leadership and Management track offered through the Donald C. Stone Center. The PWS program focuses on knowledge and skills that will help supervisors become effective leaders. Increasingly, supervisors in public works will be required to move beyond their technical expertise into situations where holistic skills are necessary.

Supervisors should know how to communicate clearly, empathetically and effectively under pressure, how to navigate the political environment, how to leverage resources, how to rethink systems and how to critically consider and integrate solutions and options across all functional areas. In essence, effective supervisors and team leaders will need to understand how all areas of public works interact with each other to create, support and grow healthy communities.
