APWA Submits Testimony for Hearing on Water Infrastructure
On July 25, the Water & Power Subcommittee of the Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee held a hearing about the nation’s water infrastructure. The hearing centered on learning more about the aging state of the nation’s water resources infrastructure and the challenge of developing potential solutions. APWA submitted written testimony stating our support for several initiatives that will increase capital investment in our nation’s water infrastructure and will help improve its current state. The Water & Power Subcommittee has legislative jurisdiction over Bureau of Reclamation (which oversees water resources projects in the Western US); irrigation; power marketing administrations; energy development impacts on water resources; groundwater resources and management; hydroelectric power; low head hydro; and energy related aspects of deepwater ports. Representatives from the District of Columbia Water & Sewer Authority, the US Army Corp of Engineers, the Congressional Research Service, the University of Maryland, and the Bureau of Reclamation testified in front of the subcommittee.
