New Board member appointed
Noel Thompson of the Kentucky Chapter has been appointed to APWA's Board of Directors as the Director of Region III. His appointment fills the unexpired term of Bob Freudenthal, who will assume the position of APWA President-Elect during Congress in Atlanta.
Thompson has had a 30-year career in public service, 22 in public works with the City of Louisville Public Works Department and its successor agency, Metro Louisville Public Works, from which he retired in May 2003 as Executive Administrator. Prior to his tenure in public works, Thompson was the Executive Assistant Director of the Louisville & Jefferson County Metropolitan Park & Recreation Board.
Thompson attended his first APWA meeting in 1983, and quickly became involved in the Kentucky Chapter and its Central Branch. Thompson has held all of the elective officer positions of the Central Branch and of the Kentucky Chapter. From 1999 until his recent appointment to Region III Director, he served as Kentucky Chapter Delegate.
Thompson has been active on the national scene, co-chairing the 2000 Congress Host Committee and in 2002 chairing the Congress Program Planning Committee. He was chair for multiple terms of the APWA-AGC Joint Task Force. Over the years he has served on several other committees, including his current International Affairs Committee appointment.
