The New Brunswick Branch, in conjunction with the Atlantic Provinces Chapter, recently held its Spring Conference May 12-14 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. PEI Mayor Clifford Leigh provided opening remarks and presented Tom DeMaio, APWA Director for Region I, with a gift. Leigh also met with DeMaio later in the mayor's office to discuss public works. "Mayor Leigh was very interested in the work that APWA and CPWA do on a national level," DeMaio said. "The visit to city hall was very interesting."

Approximately 100 participants attended the conference held at the Best Western Hotel. An Equipment Services Session was held the evening of May 12, with sessions on what to look for in municipal trucks as well as tire applications for municipalities. Titles of the sessions on May 13 and 14 included "Asphalt Mix & Specifications," "Asset Management," "Stormwater Runoff Treatment," along with a roundtable discussion concerning employee accident reporting policy. Thursday's classes concluded with a church supper sponsored by the Atlantic Caterpillar Company at their new Charlottetown facility.

"The conference was well run with a very full agenda," DeMaio added. "This is a representation of what can be accomplished by our smaller chapters."
