On June 19, Dennis Ross, former head of APWA's Professional Development Department (now the Technical Services Department), was "roasted" by the Kansas City staff during the weekly staff meeting. Dennis, who along with his wife, Susan, recently purchased a 43-foot sailboat called "S/V Two Can Play," retired in June after six years with the staff to cruise the west coast of Mexico and then "let the winds decide which way we will go in the future," as he said.
The bon voyage-themed roast, which included island music as well as the crew of Gilligan's Island, came as a complete surprise to Dennis. "Thanks to all of you that conspired to make the staff meeting a memorable occasion," he said. "When I joined APWA in 1978, it was because my membership came with the job. Little did I realize the impact APWA would have on my career and my life."
