Broadcast Journalist, ABC News
Bob Woodruff joined ABC-News in 1996 and was named co-anchor of ABC’s World News Tonight in 2005. On January 29, 2006, while reporting on U.S. and Iraqi security forces, he was seriously injured by a roadside bomb near Taji, Iraq.
Just thirteen months after sustaining his injuries, Mr. Woodruff returned to the air with “To Iraq and Back: Bob Woodruff Reports” which chronicled his traumatic brain injury (TBI) and recovery and the plight of thousands of service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with similar injuries. His continued work in covering TBI for ABC News won him a Peabody Award in 2008.
In recent years, Mr. Woodruff has covered major stories from around the globe including major hotspots—North Korea, Syria, Jordan, China, and the Sudan. He reported from New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and was ABC’s lead correspondent on the Asian Tsunami. In 2008-2009, Mr. Woodruff anchored “Focus Earth”, a weekly eco-newscast for Planet Green, Discovery Communications 24/7 eco-lifestyle network.
In 2007, Bob and Lee Woodruff published the account of their lives after his injury: In an Instant: A Family’s Journey of Love and Healing. A percentage of the book’s proceeds are donated to the Bob Woodruff Foundation which provides resources and support to injured service members, veterans, and their families.
Join us in the opportunity to be inspired by Mr. Woodruff’s courageous recovery story and to be intrigued by his perspective on the world we live in today.
