A message from John McCorkhill, Fleet Services Committee Chair, 2009-10:
Welcome to the Fleet Services Technical Committee Homepage. This very active committee focuses on professional development and technical industry information related to the acquisition, management, maintenance and disposal of public fleet assets and equipment. Following are highlights from the 2009 committee business plan.
Fleet Manager Certification. APWA launched this important program in September of 2006, and to date there are 78 Certified Public Fleet Professionals. These outstanding individuals recognized each year at Congress. The Public Fleet Professional Certification program includes an eligibility application process, a multiple-choice exam and a recertification application process. The Certified Public Fleet Professional examination is administered in paper-and-pencil and computer-based formats. Paper-and-pencil exams are delivered annually at APWA’s International Congress and Exposition. Computer-based exam blocks are offered several times annually at over 170 Assessment Centers geographically distributed throughout the United States. The 2010 exam schedule and assessment center locations are available at (http://www.apwa.net/certification/cpfp.asp).
Publications. Another major area of effort for the committee and APWA staff is the development of quality, technical publications that are easy to understand, loaded with useful information, and offered at the best possible cost. These publications are designed to assist Fleet Managers, Public Works Directors and those interested in developing an understanding of the public fleet industry. All are available online at the APWA bookstore.
Educational Sessions. The committee provides program development and planning for fleet technical sessions at the APWA North
American Snow Conference and the APWA Int'l Public Works Congress & Exposition. Nationally recognized industry leaders are identified to deliver
topics of interest at both events. Complimenting the Sessions at Congress are on going Fleet
Management Workshops, held around the country and in Canada; generally running in conjunction with the workshop are one-day workshops to help the aspiring CPFP prepare for the exam. If you would
like further information please go to http://www.apwa.net/Education/live.asp.
The committee also works with the education staff to identify topics, develop and plan in-depth, instructional, interactive, Internet-based, educational
training that you watch on your PC. Following completion of the live program, the presentation is packaged into handy programs that can be purchased and
viewed at a later time. All are available online at the APWA bookstore.
