A message from Brenda Herrman, Fleet Services Committee Chair, 2007-08:
Welcome to the Fleet Services Technical Committee at APWA. This very active committee focuses on professional development and
technical industry information related to the acquisition, management, maintenance and disposal of public vehicles and equipment.
Following are highlights from the 2007 committee business plan.
Fleet Manager Certification. APWA launched this important program in September of 2006 at Congress in Kansas City.
There are now 22 Certified Public Fleet Professionals. These outstanding individuals were recognized at Congress in San Antonio in
September 2007. The 2008 Examination dates are February 23, 2008, Oakland, CA; April 12, 2008, Louisville, KY; and August 16, 2008,
New Orleans, LA.
Publications. Another major area of effort for the committee and APWA staff is the development of quality, technical
publications that are easy to understand, loaded with useful information, and offered at the best possible cost. These publications are
designed to assist Fleet Managers, Public Works Directors and those interested in developing an understanding of the public fleet industry.
All are available online at the APWA bookstore.
Educational Sessions. The committee provides program development and planning for fleet technical sessions at the
APWA North American Snow Conference and the APWA Int'l Public Works Congress & Exposition. Nationally recognized industry leaders are
identified to deliver topics of interest. The 2008 Congress sessions will focus on hot topics in the fleet industry. Watch for bulletins
from APWA national headquarters for the latest information. Watch for bulletins from APWA national

Communication Network. Members interested in discussing fleet operations issues with other APWA members are encouraged
to subscribe to the infoNOW community – Fleet section. This forum connects you to other public sector fleet management professionals and provides opportunities to post and answer questions to your peers.
